Term II · opens Tuesday 14 October
Learn to fall upward.
Volta is a night school for aerial arts in an old tram depot on Rua do Heroísmo. Adults, no experience needed, twelve weeks a term — taught by people who still perform.
Four apparatus, one depot
Pick what you hang from.
Every term student gets one main apparatus and open practice on the other three every Thursday after 21:00.
- 01
Silks
Two lengths of stretch fabric, a foot lock and a lot of patience. Most people climb the full nine metres by week five.
Mon + Wed · 18:30
- 02
Static trapeze
A bar that does not swing, so you can find every balance point on it: hip, knee pit, the back of the neck, one ankle.
Tue · 19:00
- 03
Lyra
A steel ring on a swivel. Strength first, then shapes, then the spin you were warned about on day one.
Thu · 18:30
- 04
Low wire
Six metres of tensioned cable at hip height. Slow feet, soft knees, eyes on the far post and never on the wire.
Wed · 20:15
Twelve weeks, one act
How a term goes.
- Weeks 01–03
Ground and grip
Conditioning, wrist and shoulder prep, inverts from the floor. You leave every session tired and unbruised.
- Weeks 04–06
Climbs and locks
Russian climb, foot locks, hip keys. The first time you hang by your own wrap, nine metres up.
- Weeks 07–09
Drops and rolls
Controlled falls on the fabric and the bar, always over a 30 cm crash mat and with a spotter at the rig.
- Weeks 10–12
Your three minutes
Sequence, music, light. Every student builds a short act for the showcase on Saturday 20 December.
Saturdays · 10:00 and 11:30
Ninety minutes, one rig, no commitment.
Wear leggings and a long-sleeved top — fabric burns. If you sign up for the term the same day, the €18 comes off the €340.
