SOTAVENTO // CITIZEN WEATHER COMMONS

The sky,
measured from
4,112 back gardens.

Every point in the sphere is a station someone bolted to a fence, a roof or a harbour mast. Every point in the ring is a balloon that climbed past the clouds this week. Together they report every ten minutes, and the forecast is free.

01 — Two populations

One object, two altitudes.

The core is the ground.

Temperature, humidity, pressure and wind at two metres, from stations that cost less than a bicycle. We draw them white because they are the baseline every model leans on.

The ring is the air above it.

Volunteer launch sites release a latex balloon at dawn. It reports every second until it bursts, somewhere near thirty kilometres, and that profile is what turns readings into a forecast.

A station kit is a sensor mast, a solar cell and a radio the size of a matchbox. We post it, you choose the spot, and your garden is in the next model run.
